MARTA AND CITY
OF ATLANTA COMMEMORATE TRANSIT EQUITY DAY
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA),
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 732, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens will come
together Wednesday, Feb. 4, to observe Transit Equity Day. This National Day of
Action, held on the birthday of Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks, celebrates public
transportation as a fundamental civil right and a vital bridge to opportunity.
The pop-up celebration will be headlined by the appearance of
MARTA’s restored 1955 historical bus, similar to the one on which Rosa Parks
took her courageous stand.
The event will also serve as a platform to discuss the many ways
MARTA service is improving this year. These projects, including the better Breeze
fare payment system, MARTA Reach micro
transit service, the NextGen Bus Network, and the MARTA
Rapid A-Line,
are designed to address historical inequities and provide more frequent service
to underserved communities.
