Any property recovered by MARTA Police must be claimed within 90 days. After that, the property may be disposed without further notice. If you can't personally claim your property, you can always authorize someone else to pick it up. To do so, you'll need to complete a letter of authorization that includes: your name, your address, your phone number, a description of the property and the name of the person who will claim the property. That letter must be signed and notarized once completed. Also, the person you authorize needs to have a valid photo ID.
If your personal belongings are taken as evidence in a court case, it’s your responsibility to contact MARTA Police once the case is closed. Claiming these items requires a Property and Release Form from the District Attorney or Solicitors Office. These items must be claimed within 90 days of the final disposition of the court case.
You can claim any general property between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. every weekday — except during legal holidays. To find out whether MARTA has recovered your personal property, you'll need to complete and submit a
Lost and Found Inquiry Form.
Weapons will not be returned to convicted felons.
