MARTA MARKS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH WITH RAIL STATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
FEATURING PEOPLE WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)
will feature rail station announcements made by children and young adults with
autism spectrum disorder (ASD) during the month of April to mark Autism
Awareness Month. The rail service announcements can be heard on the platforms
at MARTA’s 38 rail stations.
“According to autism professionals, a train’s spinning wheels, the
various types and models of trains, and the strict scheduling of train service
are all features that can greatly appeal to an individual with ASD,” said MARTA
General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “We at MARTA share an enthusiasm for trains
and are proud to feature the voices of those with ASD
on our platforms this month.”
MTA in New York City, BART in San Francisco, and WMATA in
Washington, D.C. are featuring similar announcements throughout their systems during April.
