MARTA OPENS NEW PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AT INDIAN CREEK STATION

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) announced the grand opening of the new pedestrian bridge and west plaza at Indian Creek Station on Monday, May 18, 2026. The event marks a key milestone for the Indian Creek Rehabilitation project, the first station to begin construction in MARTA’s multi-decade Station Rehabilitation Program, that includes structural and aesthetic improvements at all 38 rail stations.

The centerpiece of this project is a new pedestrian bridge which gives residents on Durham Park Road access to the north end of the station. Additional upgrades include new lighting and illuminated signage throughout the station, new landscaping, benches, and trash receptacles, deep cleaning, and a repaved bus loop. A new operators’ booth and restroom have also been added to the platform.

“Indian Creek is a major lifeline for DeKalb County. For residents in surrounding neighborhoods, this bridge is transformational. It significantly reduces travel time, it provides a safe, accessible route into the station, and it removes barriers that once made transit less convenient,” Interim MARTA General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony held along with leaders from Carroll Daniel Construction Company, C.D. Moody Construction Company, and Axis Infrastructure.

This project would not have been possible without the support of MARTA’s jurisdictional partners and elected officials in DeKalb County.

“As commissioner of this district, I understand how important public transportation is to the residents I serve. MARTA is more than just a transit system, it is a vital connection to jobs, schools, medical appointments, shopping and countless opportunities that improve the quality of life for our citizens” said DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson, who has been a key supporter of the project and better transit.

Indian Creek rail station is the easternmost terminus of the Blue Line and plays an important role in connecting customers in eastern DeKalb County to the greater MARTA system, serving an average of 3,000 customers a day.
