MARTA INVITES
VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN THE RIDERS’ ADVISORY COUNCIL AND
SHAPE THE FUTURE OF TRANSIT
Group Provides
Vital Feedback on Customer Experience
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)
is now accepting applications for its Riders’ Advisory Council (RAC). This
volunteer council plays a vital role in engagement—gathering real-time feedback
from riders, serving as a community sounding board, and sharing key updates on
current projects. The RAC helps ensure MARTA continuously improves service and
enhances the overall transit experience for all customers. They concluded
their two-year term in May, creating an opportunity for new members to
join.
The RAC is comprised of 25 members representing MARTA’s diverse
ridership across its four service jurisdictions: the City of Atlanta, Clayton,
DeKalb, and Fulton counties. Anyone is eligible to serve except MARTA
employees, owners, or employees of businesses with active MARTA contracts,
elected officials, and individuals younger than 18.
“The Riders’ Advisory Council (RAC) offers a vital forum for
transit stakeholders to share their concerns, perspectives, and ideas directly
with MARTA leadership. RAC members serve as an important link between the
Authority and the communities we serve, ensuring that customer voices are heard
and considered in the decision-making process,” said MARTA Assistant General
Manager of Customer Experience Nevin Grinnell, who presides over the
council. “This council provides a space where both advocates and critics
can engage constructively, helping us strengthen the transit experience and
build a system that truly reflects the needs of our riders.”
Current RAC members say serving on the council has been both
impactful and rewarding. Gee Pegram of Fulton County described the experience
as deeply meaningful.
“It has provided the opportunity not only to share my perspective
as a rider, but also to contribute to conversations that directly impact our
communities, while remaining inspired and empowered as a public transportation
advocate to discuss ideas for sustainable solutions,” Pegram said. “RAC allowed
me to connect, engage, and learn about various departments within MARTA through
insightful presentations from MARTA’s CX staff.”
The RAC meets on the first Wednesday of each month, starting in
June, to provide input on topics such as MARTA’s mobile apps and digital
customer communication platforms, rail station appearance and amenities, and
major expansion projects. Members also gain unique insight into MARTA
operations through behind-the-scenes tours of facilities, briefings on proposed
initiatives, and opportunities to serve as transit ambassadors at major events
such as bowl games and concerts.
The application period to apply for the next
Riders’ Advisory Council is open, starting August 17, 2026, through
September 25, 2026. Finalists will be announced on December 7.
