MARTA CONTINUES SYSTEMWIDE INSTALLATION OF NEW FARE PAYMENT SYSTEM
New Station Entrance Detours at Airport, Buckhead, Brookhaven, Lindbergh, and East Point

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) continues systemwide construction and installation of its new, better Breeze fare payment system. MARTA’s Breeze system, including Breeze cards and tickets, faregates and validators, ticket vending machines, and the mobile app are being updated.

Construction and fare equipment installation is being done in phases to ensure continued access to rail stations with minimal disruption. This work will not cause changes to rail or bus service but may require walking detours to enter and exit stations.

Upcoming faregate construction dates and locations are as follows:

Starting Monday, March 2 – Airport Station (previously announced)

All faregates closed for construction. Use emergency doors facing outside to the west curb (shuttle loop) and follow signs. Customers will need to enter and exit the Airport through terminal doors W-1 and W-2. The concourse remains open to buy fare. Customers must pay fare to exit at destination.

Starting Tuesday, March 3 – Buckhead Station

All faregates closed for construction. Use emergency gates at both north and south entrances. Customers must pay fare to exit at destination.

Starting Wednesday, March 4 – Brookhaven Station

West faregates closed for construction. Use bus loop faregates or emergency gates at west faregates. Customers must pay fare to exit at destination.

Starting Thursday, March 5 – Lindbergh Station

Northeast faregates (across from MARTA headquarters) and southeast faregates closed for construction. Use northwest faregates by bus loop or southwest faregates on Garson Drive. Please allow two extra minutes for travel.

Starting Friday, March 6 – East Point Station

All faregates closed for construction. Use emergency gates at north or south faregates. Customers must pay fare to exit at destination.

Customers should pay attention to signs and announcements at rail stations denoting which faregates are closed for construction to ensure smooth travel.

Fare equipment construction is currently underway at more than half of MARTA’s 38 rail stations. Several stations have multiple entrances, which may require more than one construction mobilization at the same station. For information on station impacts and entrance detours visit MARTA.

Note that this is a systemwide project and the phased construction approach will mean new faregates and ticket vending machines may be installed but are not yet usable. Customers should continue using the existing Breeze mobile app, Breeze cards, and equipment until the customer transition period from March 28 to May 2, 2026.

Current Breeze fare media is not compatible with the better Breeze system and will not work after May 2, 2026. Customers are encouraged to spend down their stored fare by May 2, 2026. Remaining balances may be transferred to a new, registered Breeze account May 2 through Oct. 30, 2026.

For project information visit MARTA.
