MARTA CELEBRATES OUTKAST’S IMPACT ON ATLANTA WITH CUSTOM BUS ACTIVATION IN HONOR OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF STANKONIA
MARTA Bus Design Honors Legendary Atlanta Rap Duo

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) celebrated  Atlanta’s own Outkast — André 3000 and Big Boi — with the release of a custom MARTA bus across the city in honor of the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking Stankonia album, released on October 31, 2000.

To commemorate this milestone and the duo’s upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8, MARTA designed a custom-wrapped bus inspired by Outkast’s signature style and Atlanta roots.

The special-edition bus was unveiled Thursday, October 30, at Skatetonia25, a celebratory fan event hosted by Sony Music at Cascade Skating Rink in southwest Atlanta. The event featured music, skating, and a special appearance by Big Boi, who posed for photos alongside the MARTA bus celebrating the group’s legacy.

Outkast’s influence extends beyond music, and their creativity, authenticity, and celebration of Atlanta culture continue to inspire artists today. MARTA is proud to be part of that story.

“MARTA is part of the fabric of Atlanta, just like Outkast,” said Jonathan Hunt, Interim General Manager and CEO of MARTA. “We’re honored to celebrate artists who have carried the spirit of this city to the world, and who often mentioned MARTA in their music.”

Outkast and MARTA share a special connection through the group’s lyrics, most notably in “Elevators (Me & You)” from their 1996 ATLiens album:

“A couple of years ago on Headland and Delowe / Was the start of something good / Where me and my **** rode the MARTA through the hood…”

The intersection mentioned above in East Point is accessible today via MARTA bus routes 93 and 81, and thanks to Outkast, will forever be part of the city’s cultural geography, woven into the duo’s storytelling and Atlanta’s identity.

The specially designed bus will remain in service for approximately one year and will serve riders across Southwest Atlanta.
