MARTA
BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF CLEVELAND-METROPOLITIAN ARTERIAL RAPID TRANSIT (ART)
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority
(MARTA), in partnership with the City of Atlanta through the More MARTA
program, began construction on the new Cleveland-Metropolitan Arterial Rapid
Transit (ART) on Monday, October 26, 2026.
This will be Atlanta’s first ART, offering more reliable
bus service with:
- Enhanced shelters
- Improved customer amenities
- Reduced travel time through fewer stops and Transit
Signal Priority (TSP)
The Cleveland Avenue ART will follow most of MARTA’s
current Route 78 (Cleveland Avenue) from East Point Station to Jonesboro Road,
providing a more direct path by removing the existing loop around Browns Mill
Golf Course. The Metropolitan Parkway ART will enhance service along the
highest-ridership segment of current Route 95 (Metropolitan Parkway),
connecting West End Station to Cleveland Avenue near
Walmart.
Additional information about where construction will begin
is listed below.
City of Atlanta
- Construction will begin on Metropolitan Parkway at St.
Johns Avenue SW (northbound in front of the Dollar Tree), at the north
entrance for Atlanta Technical College (northbound).
City of East Point
- Work will begin at Bayard Street and
move east along Cleveland Avenue.
As work progresses, residents can expect intermittent
sidewalk closures, temporary bus stop relocations, and short-term traffic
impacts. MARTA will provide advance notice for impacts caused by this project
ahead of the construction schedule. Access to homes and businesses will be
maintained throughout the project.
For more information on the project visit MARTA.
