MARTA ANNOUNCES OPENING OF NEW SOUTH PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AT EAST LAKE STATION
Station Access Returns on South Side; Portion of South Lot Open

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is pleased to announce that the new south pedestrian bridge at East Lake Station is open. The south bridge is the second and final pedestrian bridge replacement at the rail station.

The opening of the south bridge marks the completion of the current phase of Station Rehabilitation work at East Lake. The original bridges were two of the oldest in MARTA’s system, dating back to 1979.

What does this mean for customers?

  • Station Access: Both station entrances are open.
  • Buses: Route 34 has returned to boarding on the south side of the station. Routes 2 and 19 no longer serve East Lake Station after the NextGen Bus Network launch on April 18, 2026. Details are available here.
  • Parking: A portion of the south parking lot is open. The remaining sections of the south lot will reopen soon in phases as the construction team clears out equipment. The EV chargers in the south lot are now available to customers.
  • Shuttle: Shuttle service has been suspended between the north and south lots now that the south side is reopened.

Previous project milestones include:

  • New north pedestrian bridge opened to customers in December 2024.
  • New north elevator opened in April 2025, making the north side of the station accessible for the first time since it opened 47 years go. Today, both sides of the station are fully ADA-accessible.
  • New ADA spaces and striping were added in the north lot to accompany the new elevator.

Finishing touches including painting and minor roof repairs will be completed over the next couple of weeks. There is no customer impact during this work.

East Lake Station is one of the first stations renovated as part of MARTA’s multi-year, approximately $1 billion Station Rehabilitation Program.
