EAST LAKE STATION
PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE REPLACEMENT MOVES FORWARD; SOUTH PARKING LOT CLOSES MONDAY,
MARCH 2;
FULL SOUTH ENTRANCE CLOSURE BEGINS MONDAY, MARCH 9
Parking, Station Access,
and Buses Move to North Side
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is moving
into the next phase of the East Lake Station Rehabilitation project with the
closure of the south parking lot beginning Monday, March 2, 2026, and the full
closure of the south entrance and south pedestrian bridge beginning Monday,
March 9, 2026. The closure is necessary for the replacement of the south
pedestrian bridge and is anticipated to last approximately two months.
This milestone follows the reopening of the north entrance, which
now includes a new elevator, upgraded flooring, and enhanced lighting. With ADA
access added to the north side, construction crews will now shift focus to the
southern end of the station.
Here’s what riders and neighbors can expect beginning Monday,
March 2, 2026:
- Parking: The south parking lot will be closed to
cars. Parking is available in the north lot. We anticipate ample parking for
daily use, but it may fill up during special events.
- Station
Access: Pedestrians and bus
customers can still use both the north and south entrances until Monday, March
9, when the south entrance closes.
Here’s what riders and
neighbors can expect beginning Monday, March 9, 2026:
- Access:
All customers must use the north entrance. North elevator remains in service.
- Buses: All routes currently operating from the
south side will be rerouted to the north side (Routes 2, 19, and 34). After the
NextGen Bus Network launches on April 18, 2026, only Route 34 will continue
serving East Lake Station. Details are available at MARTA.
- Free
Shuttles: A shuttle will run
between the north and south parking lots during service hours for customer
convenience. The shuttle is free and ADA-accessible.
- StationSoccer: Both pitches and parking will remain
available and accessible during construction.
- Temporary
Road Closures: Temporary closures on
College Avenue are planned for mid-April during the pedestrian bridge removal
and installation. Advance notice will be provided through signage and
communications as soon as dates are confirmed.
Construction Timeline
The project team has been focused on coordinating construction work that will
occur over an active freight line and busy street. MARTA’s construction
partners have completed much of the bridge construction while it was in the
parking lot, reducing the time needed for bridge installation and minimizing
customer impact.
Additional enhancements at East Lake Station include new ADA
ramps, fresh paint, upgraded curb and gutter features, and other aesthetic and
functional upgrades aimed at improving safety, accessibility, and rider
comfort.
