Project Overview
The Clayton Multipurpose O&M Facility will support operations of 31 regional bus routes and 250 buses. The facility will also include a MARTA Police precinct, training facility, employee wellness center, bus maintenance and repair facilities, transit operations and administrative offices, bus fueling points, bus inspection areas, vehicle cleaning facilities, bus parking, and employee parking.

Project Need
The facility is necessary to allow MARTA to continue implementing a large service expansion as part of the More MARTA Program in the City of Atlanta, Fulton, DeKalb, and Clayton counties. This new facility will supplement other existing MARTA bus maintenance facilities, leverage new vehicle technologies such as electric bus and connected vehicles, and add needed infrastructure to improve current bus system operations. The need for this new facility was recognized years ago when Clayton County citizens voted to join the MARTA system in November 2014.
Project Benefits
The facility is designed to:
- Increase system efficiency by reallocating bus maintenance and repair functions from existing MARTA bus maintenance facilities (up to 19 miles away) to the new facility resulting in a reduction in overall bus mileage, lost revenue, time and emissions.
- Lower operational costs by reducing lost revenue time, mileage, deadhead costs and bus driver costs.
- Accommodate up to 250 buses with parking, fueling, washing and maintenance.
- Support fueling and servicing of alternative fuels, including natural gas and fully electric buses. The site will be designed to support an all-electric bus fleet in the future.
- Spark economic investment in the site within a federally designated Opportunity Zone.
- Create new local construction and transit jobs, employ over 400 employees, and enhance safety with the presence of officers at the police precinct. The facility will have a positive future net fiscal impact of about $174K annually on the City of Forest Park.
Proposed Site Location
Approximately 31-acre site consisting of two parcels located in Forest Park, Georgia on Old Dixie Highway. The selected site is surrounded with mostly warehousing and auto service businesses.
