BETTER BREEZE FAREGATE
CONSTRUCTION BEGINS AT AIRPORT STATION MARCH 2, 2026
All Faregates Closed;
Customers Must Use Emergency Doors Facing Outside to West Curb
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)
continues systemwide installation of its new fare payment system. All
faregates will be closed for construction at Airport Station, located at
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, from Monday, March 2 through
Saturday, March 28, 2026.
During this time, customers should use the station’s emergency
doors facing outside to the West Curb (shuttle loop) and follow signs. Customers will
need to enter and exit the Airport through North or South Terminal doors W-1
and W-2.
Additional information for airport customers is listed below.
- Airport Station’s concourse will remain open for
customers to buy fare from either the fare vending machines or the
RideStore.
- Customers will not need to pay fare to enter or
exit the Airport Station but must pay fare either at their origin or
destination.
- Customers should follow signs and listen for
announcements. MARTA staff will be on site to assist.
MARTA is working with airport staff and its construction partners
to work quickly and efficiently to minimize impact to customers at this
high-ridership station. MARTA is deploying a full digital outreach campaign and
partnering with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport staff to
inform MARTA airport riders. Robust customer wayfinding signs will be installed
to direct customers during the detour.
Airport Station is the 24th station out of 38 to begin
construction under the better Breeze project.
MARTA’s entire Breeze fare system, including all fare equipment
and fare media, is being updated. During the customer transition period March
28 – May 2, 2026, the current and new Breeze systems will be active so
customers can spend down any remaining fare, purchase new Breeze fare media, or
begin using the new tap to pay feature where you can tap a bank card or mobile
wallet to ride. Breeze balance transfers will be accommodated May 2 – Oct. 30,
2026.
