A BETTER BREEZE IS COMING! MARTA CONTINUES SYSTEMWIDE INSTALLATION OF NEW FARE COLLECTION SYSTEM
Station Entrance Detours at West End, North Springs, Kensington, Doraville, and Indian Creek Stations

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) continues systemwide construction and installation of its new fare collection system. MARTA’s Breeze system, including Breeze cards and tickets, faregates and validators, ticket vending machines, and the mobile app will be updated and modernized by spring 2026.

Construction and equipment installation is being done in phases to ensure continued access to rail stations and minimal disruption and continues until the customer transition period in April 2026. There are no changes to rail or bus service caused by this work.

Installation of new faregates and ticket vending machines will continue on the following schedule:

Monday, Nov. 24, 2025 - West End Station

South faregates closed. Use north faregates. Customers who park in the south lot should follow signs on either side of the station to reach the north faregates. Please allow extra time.

Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025 - North Springs Station

West (bus loop) faregates closed. Follow signs to east faregates on other side of station.

Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025 - Kensington Station

East and west faregates at ends of concourse closed. Bus loop faregates remain open. ADA customers should allow extra time for their trip. Customers approaching from the north parking lot should follow signs leading to the bus loop faregates.

Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 – Doraville Station

South faregates currently closed. Remaining faregates will be under construction starting Monday, Dec. 1. Use emergency gates for access. Customers must have fare to exit at destination.

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025 – Indian Creek Station

East (bus loop) faregates closed. Use west faregates.

Better Breeze equipment installation is ongoing at the following stations:

Dunwoody Station - Upper concourse faregates closed. Use emergency gates for access. Customers must have fare to exit at destination.

East Point Station - South faregates closed. Use north entrance. Plan additional travel time.

Lindbergh Center Station - Northwest and Southwest faregates closed. Use northeast faregates across from MARTA HQ.

Ashby Station - East faregates closed. Use west faregates.

Georgia State Station - All faregates under construction. Use emergency gates to access station. Customers must have fare to exit at destination.

Customers should pay attention to signs and announcements at rail stations denoting which faregates are closed for construction to ensure smooth travels. Note that this is a systemwide project and the phased construction approach will mean new faregates may be installed but not yet usable. Current Breeze cards and mobile app will not work on the new fare equipment.

Customers should continue using the existing Breeze mobile app, fare media and equipment.

Here is what customers will experience with the Better Breeze system:

NEW FARE EQUIPMENT: New, contactless fare payment equipment systemwide including faregates and fareboxes, validators, and touch screen Breeze vending machines. The new faregates are harder to tamper with and can be monitored and adjusted remotely, reducing incidents of fare evasion, resulting in a safer, more secure transit system.

NEW PAYMENT FEATURE: Open payment where you can tap your bank card or mobile wallet at the faregate or farebox to pay for your ride.

NEW APP: Breeze Mobile 2.0 is going away. Customers will need to download a new app and create a new account with a virtual Breeze card to purchase fare.

NEW BREEZE CARDS: New cards and continued options of multi-day and monthly passes. Breeze cards will be account-based and fare stored in the customer’s account rather than on the card.

Information on ongoing fare equipment installation and instructions on how and when to transition to the new fare system will be shared in the coming months and into next spring.

REDUCED FARE AND MOBILITY CUSTOMERS: Eligible customers will have the option of getting a new card OR downloading the new mobile app. Visit a Reduced Fare office, email reducedfare@itsmarta.com or call 404-848-5112.

INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERS: MARTA’s institutional partners should email partnerprograms@itsmarta.com.

REGIONAL PARTNERS: CobbLinc, Ride Gwinnett, and ATL transit agencies will transition to the Better Breeze fare collection system. Customers will receive more information from their transit provider in the coming months.
