Statement of MARTA General Manager/CEO Jeff Parker on the
Passing Henrietta Turnquest
MARTA is
saddened by the passing of Henrietta Turnquest, who was appointed to the MARTA
Board in 2003, the first African American woman to be appointed and serve on
the MARTA Board of Directors.
While her
service ended with her resignation in May 2004, she continued to work to
support and improve MARTA’s service to the community. She
played a critical role in bringing about the Clayton County MARTA referendum in
2014, which was approved by 74% of Clayton voters. Turnquest was also a strong
voice for creating opportunity for a wide range of minority and women-owned
businesses.
The MARTA family offers our deepest condolences to her
family, friends and community.
