What is changing?

Almost all MARTA bus routes are changing in April 2026. MARTA is also launching a brand-new service type, MARTA Reach, in March 2026 as part of the NextGen Bus Network. To learn more about how the changes are going to affect you visit our Find Your Bus Route page.

What is the NextGen Bus Network?

The NextGen Bus Network is MARTA’s new, transformative bus network. With more frequent buses, optimized routes, and flexible, on-demand options, the new network will make transit faster and more reliable, better meeting the needs of our riders. The redesign focuses on frequent service along high-demand corridors, increased access to jobs and essential services, and equitable access for underserved communities.

What is MARTA Reach?

MARTA Reach is a brand new on-demand service type MARTA is providing as part of the NextGen Bus Network. On-demand service provides the ability to take a MARTA trip directly from one location to another within a designated zone. On-demand is a new tool to provide better service to areas with lower ridership and density where buses currently come very infrequently. MARTA Reach is in advance of the full NextGen Network in March 2026.

Is MARTA cutting bus service?

No, MARTA is not cutting bus service. The NextGen Bus Network does have fewer bus routes, 81 compared to 113 today, but many of the routes in the NextGen Network will be more direct serving more locations and have buses coming more often.

Why isn’t bus service in Clayton County changing much?

Clayton County joined MARTA in 2014 and has been the subject of several bus route planning efforts to improve bus service. The NextGen Bus Network aligns with those planning efforts.

Is the fare for the bus changing?

No, the MARTA bus fare will still be $2.50. Learn more about MARTA fares here

When should I see changes?

You will start to see signs on MARTA buses and trains in late January announcing NextGen Bus Network launch date in April 2026. Project team members will also start traveling throughout the system passing out information, answering questions, and helping customers understand how the NextGen Network impacts them. Additionally, all bus stops where service is changing will have temporary signs.

Why are you changing my route?

The NextGen network was designed to improve frequency of service, make our routes more direct and easier for our customers to understand, and to more effectively deploy our resources where riders need them the most. Unlike previous MARTA service changes, in which we made many small changes over time, this effort was done in a more comprehensive way by taking a fresh look at nearly the entire bus system all at once. The final route changes are designed to best fit MARTA’s operating resources to ridership demand, improve frequency across the network, and improve the safety and reliability of service.

Why are some stops being removed?

The NextGen Network provides more frequent service on major corridors and as a result lower-demand areas will be served by the new MARTA Reach Service or have service discontinued. Overall, the NextGen Network provides 38,500 more people with access to MARTA service.
