Gwinnett County is experiencing tremendous population growth with no end in sight. County leaders and residents want to make sure Gwinnett remains a great place to live, work, and make memories with friends and family. In 2015, Gwinnett launched “The Great Exchange” a community conversation on the future of transportation in the county. 

Through more public feedback, Connect Gwinnett – a countywide plan to add and expand transit and help move more people from place to place – was approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners in 2018. MARTA has been working with county officials to determine how we can help make it easier for you to get around Gwinnett and the Atlanta region.

You’re voting for Gwinnett County to use MARTA to make transit more convenient for people who live in or visit Gwinnett. All Gwinnett transit projects will be funded by a penny sales tax.

Here’s the question you’ll see on the ballot : “Gwinnett County has executed a contract for the provision of transit services, dated as of August 2, 2018. Shall this contract be approved? YES __ NO __”

If a majority vote yes, Gwinnett County will connect to the MARTA system that includes the City of Atlanta, and Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton counties.

All of the money collected in Gwinnett will go to Gwinnett. Then, Gwinnett will pay MARTA for the transit services we provide. This means Gwinnett County gets to keep its money to add the transit it wants and it will have access to the entire MARTA bus and rail network, including service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and the region’s major job centers.

We are the nation’s ninth largest transit system and the largest of its kind in the Southeast that provides bus, rail, and paratransit service. With 40 years of operations under its belt, MARTA services three of the five core counties in the region and generates $2.6 billion in economic impact to the state of Georgia. Employees of the region’s fastest growing sectors overwhelmingly choose MARTA to get to and from work. People from every demographic across the region trust MARTA with their routine transportation needs.

MARTA will work with the county’s transportation department to ensure a seamless transition of service from GCT to MARTA.
