Southwest Atlanta Targeted
Transit Improvements

Current Status

Planning (up to Conceptual Design).

Project Overview

MARTA is enhancing transit in Southwest Atlanta by analyzing key corridors west of the Red and Gold Rail Lines in the City of Atlanta, Fulton County, and the City of East Point. This project will evaluate key corridors in these areas and identify improvements to enhance transit service and increase pedestrian safety around transit stops.

IMPROVEMENTS UNDER CONSIDERATION

MARTA is working on new ways to improve your transit experience in Southwest Atlanta. We’re exploring several upgrades to make your commute safer, faster, and more convenient.

Pedestrian Safety Improvements: We are identifying areas that need better sidewalks, safer crosswalks, and improved accessibility, such as curb ramps and ADA-friendly designs.

Better Bus Service: We are evaluating potential changes to routes and schedules to make service more efficient and better meet riders’ needs.

More Amenities: We are considering adding new amenities, such as shelters, seating, lighting, and real-time arrival signs at bus stops.

Traffic Flow Improvements: To help buses move more quickly and avoid delays, we are exploring:

  • Traffic signal timing updates
  • Transit signal priority at key intersections
  • Roadway striping changes
  • Improved bus stop locations and possible stop consolidations

Major Upgrades for Faster Travel: For larger improvements in speed and reliability, we are considering:

  • Bus boarding islands
  • Full transit signal priority along key corridors
  • Intersection redesigns and new bus lanes

These improvements aim to make transit in Southwest Atlanta safer, more reliable, and easier to use.
