Project Overview
This project is managed by City of Decatur and includes renovations to the bus terminal and western entrance to Decatur Station. This is not a MARTA Capital Project but will impact MARTA customers. According to the City, the estimated completion for the entire Decatur Square renovation is late Spring 2026.
Decatur Station’s western entrance closed in early July to protect MARTA customers during the pedestrian canopy removal. Due to a construction delay, the western entrance will be closed again temporarily from Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, to Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, to complete the remaining work on the pedestrian tunnel.
Known as the
“Decatur SquareShake Up,” these improvements are a part of the city’s “Decatur Town Center Plan 2.0.” The estimated $8.5 million project will transform the downtown Square into a community-centric and family-oriented space which includes:
- Improvements to the MARTA bus terminal
- North McDonough Plaza expansion
- New performing arts stage
- Additional green space
- Children’s playscape
- Addition of public restrooms
MARTA is committed to maintaining ADA accessibility for its customers throughout the duration of the renovations to the station. Sidewalk detours and shuttles will comply with accessibility standards.
Access to Decatur Square and surrounding businesses will remain open to the public, with only specific portions of the square closed during construction.
