Project Overview
This project is managed by City of Decatur and includes renovations to the bus terminal and western entrance to Decatur Station.
Decatur Station’s western entrance closed briefly during the summer of 2025 for the pedestrian canopy removal and additional work on the pedestrian tunnel. As of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the western entrance has reopened to customers.
Construction will continue on the plaza above Decatur Station for the next several months and the City estimates the entire Decatur Square renovation to be complete in late spring 2026.
Known as the
“Decatur SquareShake Up,” these improvements are a part of the city’s “Decatur Town Center Plan 2.0.” The estimated $8.5 million project will transform the downtown Square into a community-centric and family-oriented space which includes:
- Improvements to the MARTA bus terminal
- North McDonough Plaza expansion
- New performing arts stage
- Additional green space
- Children’s playscape
- Addition of public restrooms
MARTA is committed to maintaining ADA accessibility for its customers throughout the duration of the renovations to the Square.
Access to Decatur Square and surrounding businesses will remain open to the public, with only specific portions of the Square closed during construction.
