RIDER ALERT
As of Tuesday, July 15, 2025, we have REOPENED the west (bus loop) entrance to Decatur Station. The reopening happened sooner than expected because the City of Decatur's construction on the plaza above the station has hit a delay. Customers can temporarily access Decatur Station from either entrance.
This means we will need to briefly close the entrance again in a few weeks so the City can finish its work. We will share an update on the timing of next closure as soon as we have more information. Thanks for your patience.
Current Status: Under Construction
This project is managed by City of Decatur and includes renovations to the bus terminal and western entrance to Decatur Station. This is not a MARTA Capital Project but will impact MARTA customers. Estimated completion for the entire Decatur Square renovation is late Spring 2026.

Project Overview
Decatur Station’s western entrance closed from Monday, July 7, 2025 – Monday, July 14, 2025, to protect MARTA customers during the pedestrian canopy removal, which included the swinging of the construction crane, and other improvements to the western entrance to the station. Due to a construction delay, the western entrance will need to be closed temporarily for a brief period in the future to complete the remaining improvements.
A part of the City of Decatur’s overall renovation of the downtown Square, improvements to the bus terminal and plaza above the station will make the entrance to the Square more accessible and welcoming. Additional upgrades include more open community space designed for gathering, performance, and play.
Known as the
“Decatur SquareShake Up,” these improvements are a part of the city’s “Decatur Town Center Plan 2.0.” The estimated $8.5 million project will transform the downtown Square into a community-centric and family-oriented space which includes:
- Improvements to the MARTA bus terminal
- North McDonough Plaza expansion
- New performing arts stage
- Additional green space
- Children’s playscape
- Addition of public restrooms
MARTA is committed to maintaining ADA accessibility for its customers throughout the duration of the renovations to the station. Sidewalk detours and shuttles will comply with accessibility standards.
Access to Decatur Square and surrounding businesses will remain open to the public, with only specific portions of the square closed during construction.
