Bus Cost per Passenger Trip

Definition: Bus Cost per Passenger Trip measures operating cost of providing bus service per unlinked passenger boarding.

Performance (January 2026):

The Cost per Bus Passenger Trip of $10.54 in January was higher than the forecast by $2.64. This unfavorable variance was due to operating expenses coming in over budget and bus ridership falling short of the forecast by 658,952 unlinked passenger trips.

Note: Small differences may exist between the Bus and Streetcar ridership and Vehicle Revenue Miles numbers reported here and those in the National Transit Database due to reporting requirements set by the Federal Transit Administration for when alternative vehicles are used to provide service, such as using Mobility vans to deliver Streetcar service.
