System Updates

MARTA Track Renovation Information

single-track-gold-icon  SATURDAY April 30, & May 1, 2016  

 (Customers are advised to allow extra time for their trips)  

All Red/Gold Line trains will run on a modified 20 minute schedule. Rail service between Lindbergh Center and Airport Stations will be every 20 minutes.

North Springs customers traveling from the Airport must board the Gold Line train and transfer at Lindbergh Center to the Red Line for North Springs service. Customers traveling from North Springs will need to transfer to a Gold Line train at Lindbergh Center Station in order to continue southbound to the Airport.

Red/Gold  Platform Changes:  

  • At Five Points, Peachtree Center and Civic Center Stations, all trains will board on the northbound  platforms. (both days ending Sunday at 1pm)
  • At Dunwoody Station, all trains will board on the northbound platform (both days ending Sunday at 1pm)

NO SINGLETRACKING ON THE EAST AND WEST LINES

All Blue/Green Line trains will run on a modified 20 minute single-tracking schedule. (both days)

Blue/Green Platform Changes:  

At Dome, Five Points, GA State and King Memorial Stations, all trains will board on the westbound platforms. (Restricted Area: Omni – King Memorial) Schedule OKAU

Why is Track Renovation being done Now?  

MARTA started work in 2003 to rebuild and upgrade all 48 miles of track. Our trains have run every day for over 25 years – this work is necessary to keep the system strong for the next 25 years and beyond.The Track Renovation is part of a major capital program that also includes the overhaul of over 200 of MARTA’s rail cars. When complete, customers will benefit from a virtually new system that will run efficiently and be more reliable.back to top      


How does this work affect rail service?   

MARTA has parallel tracks all along its Red, Gold, Blue and Green lines – allowing for one train to run in each direction during normal operations. As individual sections of track are being repaired, trains must share a single track through the affected area. This “single tracking” can result in delays in rail service. We are doing our best to disrupt MARTA customers as little as possible during this process; however, some work during regular service hours cannot be avoided. Track work is part of an $80 million capital program to renovate all 48 miles of MARTA rail. This, combined with a separate program to rehabilitate existing rail cars, will provide MARTA customers with a virtually new system when complete. More...
