The name "Buckhead" comes from a story that Henry Irby, who had a general store and tavern at what is now the intersection of West Paces Ferry Road and Roswell Road, killed a large buck deer and placed it in a prominent location. Prior to this, it was called Irbyville through most of the 19th century.
