MARTA ANNOUNCES NEW BUS ROUTES, MODIFICATIONS

Changes Effective December 9

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will roll out three new bus routes and modify 32 existing routes beginning Saturday, Dec. 9.

The MARTA Board of Directors adopted the route additions and adjustments to improve on-time performance and provide more direct service. 

New Routes:

Route 40: Peachtree Street/Downtown: Route 40 creates a link between West End Station and Arts Center Station. The route will travel on Lee Street, Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, McDaniel Street, Whitehall Street, Peachtree Street and 15th Street. 

Details:

  • Operates every 30 minutes, seven days a week
  • Relieves congestion at Five Points Station
  • Creates new bus connection between West End Station and Downtown Atlanta

Route 142: East Holcomb Bridge Road: Route 142 begins at the Mansell Road Park & Ride Lot and travels south on Georgia 400 to Holcomb Bridge Road. The route runs east on Holcomb Bridge Road to Spalding Road and River Exchange Drive in Sandy Springs, then returns west. Passengers can transfer to bus routes at the Mansell Road Park & Ride Lot to connect to the North Springs Transit Station or other parts of North Fulton served by existing bus service. 

Details:

  • Introduces new service in East Roswell from GA 400 to the Gwinnett County line
  • Provides connections to destinations across North Fulton via Routes 85, 140, 141 at Mansell Park & Ride
  • Service will initially be provided Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. but may increase if ridership warrants
  • Will operate every 30 minutes during peak times and every 40 minutes during midday

Route 295:  Metropolitan Campus Express: Route 295 operates between Lakewood Station and the campuses of Atlanta Technical College and Atlanta Metropolitan State College. It travels on Main Street, Langford Parkway, Perkerson Road, Langston Drive, Metropolitan Parkway and Casplan Street to the campus bus stops. Return service travels on Casplan Street, Metropolitan Parkway, Dill Avenue, Lee Street and Astor Avenue. 

Details:

  • New direct express service between Lakewood Station, Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Atlanta Technical College
  • Operates every 20 minutes between 7:45 a.m. and 9:55 a.m. and again from 12:05 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., whenever classes are in session

Service Change Description

Route 3 – Martin Luther King Jr Drive / Auburn Avenue

Routing at Five Points Station has been adjusted.  Eastbound buses (to Auburn Avenue) will serve Five Points Station from Peachtree Street.  Westbound buses (to H.E. Holmes Station) will serve Five Points Station from Forsyth Street.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 4 – Thomasville / Moreland Avenue / MTC

The alignment along the southern portion of the route has been adjusted with alternating trips serving Forrest Park Road and Constitution Road.  From Moreland Avenue, Forrest Park Road trips will operate via McDonough Boulevard, Henry Thomas Drive (east end), Kipling Street, Turner Road, Thomasville Drive and Forrest Park Drive to Rebel Forest Drive.  Trips that continue Moreland Avenue to Constitution Road will operate via Regis Road, Valley View Road, Stonewall Drive, Constitution Road, Jonesboro Road, Hargis Street and Forrest Park Road back to Constitution Road.  Service to the Metro Transitional Center will now be provided by Route 49.  Service to Swallow Circle will now be provided by Route 155.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 4-Moreland Avenue.

Route 6 – Emory

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the supplemental short trips between Lindbergh Center Station and Emory will only be provided to Emory in the morning and to Lindbergh Center Station in the afternoon during weekday peak periods.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 6-Clifton Road / Emory.

Route 12 – Howell Mill Road / Cumberland

The supplemental school trips to North Atlanta High School have been adjusted to better accommodate demand.

Route 13 – Atlanta Student Movement Blvd. / Hunter Hills

The service segment between Five Points Station and Grady Hospital (currently operated by Route 155) will now be served by Route 13.  From Five Points Station, service to Grady Hospital will operate via Forsyth Street, Marietta Street, Decatur Street, Piedmont Avenue, Edgewood Avenue, Coca Cola Place and Jesse Hill Jr Drive to Georgia State Station.  Service to Five Points Station will operate via Jesse Hill Jr Drive, Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Piedmont Avenue, Edgewood Avenue and Marietta Street back to Forsyth Street.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 16 – Ralph McGill Blvd. / N. Highland / Lenox

Routing to Five Points Station has been adjusted to accommodate a new boarding location and eliminate conflicts with the Atlanta Streetcar.  From Courtland Street, the route will travel via Edgewood Avenue, Marietta Street, Forsyth Street and Alabama Street to the new boarding area at Alabama Street & Broad Street.  Routing from Five Points Station remains unchanged.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 16-North Highland Avenue.

 

Route 19 – Clairmont Road

Service frequency has been adjusted to better accommodate passenger demand.  In addition, all trips will operate the full length of the route (no short trips).  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 24 – Hosea L. Williams Drive / McAfee Road

The eastern alignment between Glenwood Road and Indian Creek Station has been adjusted.  From Glenwood Road, the route will travel via Austin Drive, Redwing Circle, Covington Highway, S. Indian Creek Drive and Durham Park Road to Indian Creek Station.  At the station, buses will now board in the east bus loop.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 24-McAfee / Hosea Williams.

Route 32 – Bouldercrest

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the Five Points Station boarding area has been moved to Alabama Street & Forsyth Street.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 36 - North Decatur Road / Virginia Highland

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the supplemental school trips have been eliminated due to low utilization.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 37 – Defoors Ferry Road

The timepoint at Northside Drive & Bellemeade Avenue has been removed to improve operational efficiency.  However, the bus stops at this location will continue to be served by Route 37.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

NEW Route 40 – Peachtree Street / Downtown

New Route 40 assumes segments currently operated by Routes 42 and 110.  From West End Station, the service travels via Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, McDaniel Street, Whitehall Street, Peachtree Street and 15th Street to Arts Center Station.  This new service will operate daily on a 30-minute frequency.  Please refer to the new Route 40 public timetable for specific service schedules.

Route 42 – Pryor Road / McDaniel Street

The northern alignment to Five Points has been adjusted to provide more continuous service on Pryor Road and to accommodate a new boarding location at Five Points Station.  Service will now remain on Pryor Road past University Avenue and continue north to Five Points Station.  Select trips will also operate via Hendrix Avenue, Cooper Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard back to Pryor Street/Central Avenue.  At Five Points Station, buses will now board at Alabama Street & Peachtree Street.  Routing in the Villages at Carver has also been adjusted to improve operational safety.  From Moury Avenue, buses will travel via Troup Street and Meldon Avenue back to Pryor Road.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 42-Pryor Road.

   

Route 49 – McDonough Boulevard

Service has been extended to assume the Metro Transitional Center from Route 4.  From McDonough Boulevard, buses will travel via Henry Thomas Drive (west end), Thomasville Drive, Kipling Street, Isa Drive, Moreland Avenue, Bailey Street, Fayetteville Road and Constitution Road to the MTC.  In addition, segments along McDonough Boulevard, Moreland Drive, Woodland Avenue, Custer Avenue, Boulevard and Engelwood Avenue will be adjusted to operate in both directions (stops on both sides of the street) by alternating trips.  The alignment between Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Five Points Station will also change to assume portions currently operated by Route 155.  Buses will now travel via Cooper Street, Glenn Street, Windsor Street, Ted Turner Drive, Trinity Avenue and Forsyth Street.  At Five Points Station, buses will now board at Alabama Street & Peachtree Street.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 55 – Jonesboro Road / Hutchens Road / Forest Pkwy.

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the Five Points Station boarding area has been moved to Alabama Street & Forsyth Street.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 55-Jonesboro Road.

Route 74 – Flat Shoals

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the Five Points Station boarding area has been moved to Broad Street & Alabama Street.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 78 – Cleveland Avenue

Route 81 – Venetian Hills

In response to customer and community feedback, service has been adjusted to assume portions of Route 162 and serve East Point Station.  From East Point Station, buses will travel via Main Street, Connally Drive, Norman Berry Drive, and Headland Drive to Delowe Drive.  From there, buses will circulate through the neighborhood via Dorsey Avenue, Lancaster Drive, Plantation Drive, Montrose Drive, Graywall Street, Old Colony Road, Bryant Drive and Headland Drive back to Delowe Drive.  At Delowe Drive, the route continues north to Campbellton Road, Centra Villa Drive and Venetian Drive, continuing on the regular routing to West End Station.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change. 

The route will be renamed 81-Venetian Hills / Delowe Drive.

Route 86 – Peachcrest Road / Snapfinger Road / Fairington Road

Routing from Kensington Station has been adjusted to operate via Kensington Road to Covington Highway.  In addition, supplemental weekday trips will be provided from Harvard Place Apartments to Kensington Station (westbound) during the morning peak hours and from Kensington Station to the Mall at Stonecrest (eastbound) during the afternoon peak hours.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 86-Fairington Road.

Route 95 – Metropolitan Parkway / Hapeville

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the supplemental trips serving Atlanta Technical College and Atlanta Metropolitan State College have been moved to new Route 295.  All Route 95 trips will now remain on Metropolitan Parkway.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 95-Metropolitan Parkway.

Route 107 – Glenwood

The eastern terminus of the route has been adjusted to serve Indian Creek Station.  From Covington Highway, the route will now travel via I-285 to the west bus loop at Indian Creek Station.  Covington Highway between Kensington Station and I-285 will now be served by Route 115.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 110 – Peachtree Street “The Peach”

All trips will now operate only between Arts Center Station and Lenox Station.  Peachtree Street south of Arts Center Station will now be served by new Route 40.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 110- Peachtree Road / Buckhead.

Route 111 – Snapfinger Woods Drive / Stonecrest

Routing to Indian Creek Station has been adjusted to operate via Wesley Chapel Road, Covington Highway, S. Hairston Road and Redan Road to Indian Creek Station.  At the station, buses will now board in the east bus loop.  Also, service has been extended east to serve the Stonecrest Walmart.  From Covington Highway, the route will continue to Turner Hill Road, Stonecrest Parkway E. and Mall Parkway to the Mall at Stonecrest.  In addition, supplemental weekday trips will be provided from Harvard Place Apartments to Kensington Station (westbound) during the morning peak hours and from Kensington Station to the Mall at Stonecrest (eastbound) during the afternoon peak hours.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 111-Snapfinger Woods.

Route 115 – Covington Highway / South Hairston Road

The western terminus of the route has been adjusted to Kensington Station.  From Covington Highway, the route will continue into the station via Kensington Road.  Routing to Stonecrest has also been adjusted.  The route will continue east on Covington Highway to Turner Hill Road and Mall Parkway before terminating at the Mall at Stonecrest.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 115-Covington Highway.

Route 116 – Redan Road / Stonecrest

Routing to the Mall at Stonecrest has been adjusted.  From Stone Mountain Street, service will operate via Max Cleland Boulevard, Main Street, Evans Mill Road and Mall Parkway to the Mall at Stonecrest.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 116-Redan Road.

Route 126 – Northlake / Chamblee

Select weekday trips have been extended to serve the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency.  From Parklake Drive, these trips will operate via LaVista Road, Northlake Parkway and East Exchange Place.  New schedules for Weekday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 126-Chamblee-Tucker Road.

Route 140 – North Point Parkway

Route 141 – Haynes Bridge Road / Milton

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

NEW Route 142 – East Holcomb Bridge Road

New service has been added to serve eastern portions of Roswell along Holcomb Bridge Road.  The service will originate at Mansell Park & Ride and travel south on GA-400 to Holcomb Bridge Road.  From there, the service continues east on Holcomb Bridge Road to Spalding Drive, returning to Holcomb Bridge Road via River Exchange Drive.  Service will operate weekdays only with 30-minute peak and 40-minute midday service.  Night and weekend service will not be offered at this time.   Please refer to the new Route 142 public timetable for specific service schedules.  Route 142 is being provided as a demonstration project and may be discontinued within a one-year period if ridership does not meet minimum productivity thresholds.

Route 155 – Windsor Street / Lakewood Avenue / Polar Rock

The northern terminus of the service has been adjusted to serve West End Station.   From Lakewood Avenue, the route will continue via Milton Avenue, Weyman Avenue, Ridge Avenue, Pryor Road, University Avenue, McDaniel Street, Stephens Street, Humphries Street, Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Whitehall Street to the station.  Segments currently served by Route 155 north of McDonough Boulevard, including Grady Hospital, will be served by one of the following Routes: 13, 42, 49 or 55.  In addition, alternating trips will provide service to Swallow Circle.  From Lakewood Avenue, these trips will operate via Jonesboro Road, Browns Mill Road, Harper Road, Swallow Circle, Finch Drive and Swallow Circle back to Harper Road.  The remaining trips will continue to serve Polar Rock as currently routed.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 155-Pittsburgh.

Route 162 – Alison Court / Delowe Drive

In response to customer and community feedback, the route has been adjusted to only operate the Myrtle Drive service pattern.  Customers in East Point and along Delowe Drive (south of Alison Court) will now be served by Route 81.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.  The route will be renamed 162-Myrtle Drive / Alison Court.

Route 172 – Sylvan Road / Virginia Avenue

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, routing in downtown College Park has been adjusted to improve operational safety.  From Princeton Avenue, the route will continue west to Main Street and turn right.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

   

Route 186 – Rainbow Drive / South DeKalb

Running time adjustments have been made to improve on-time performance.  In addition, the Five Points Station boarding area has been moved to Alabama Street & Broad Street.  Also, trips will now serve Pleasant Wood Drive in both directions throughout the day and evening every 30-minutes.  During the weekday peak periods, every other trip will bypass Pleasant Wood Drive and remain on Wesley Chapel Road.  New schedules for Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday service have been created to accommodate this change.

Route 194 – Conley Road / Mt. Zion

NEW Route 295 – Metropolitan Campus Express

This new limited-stop service will operate between Lakewood Station, Atlanta Technical College and Atlanta Metropolitan State College.  Service will be provided every 20 minutes on weekdays only when the campuses are in operation.  Route 295 replaces the on-campus trips previously provided by Route 95.  Please refer to the new Route 295 public timetable for specific service schedules.
