Definition: Rail Cost per Passenger Trip measures the total cost of providing rail service per unlinked passenger boarding.

 

Performance (May 2017):

The Cost per Rail Passenger Trip of $3.08 in May exceeded the forecast by $0.46, or 14.5%. This unfavorable variance was due to rail ridership falling short of the forecast by 0.9 million unlinked passenger trips and net over-runs of budgeted expenses. The 2017 Fiscal Year-to-Date (months of July through May) Cost per Rail Passenger Trip of $3.02 exceeded the forecast by $0.28, or 10.2%. This unfavorable variance is due to rail ridership falling short of the forecast by 6.3 million unlinked passenger trips and net over-runs of budgeted expenses.
