MARTA’s better Breeze fare payment system is live!

Customers of MARTA and regional transit partners ATL Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, and Ride Gwinnett must convert to the new system by May 2, 2026.

Faregates have been left open to ensure station access during the customer transition period, but all new gates will close starting May 2, and fare will be required. Old Breeze cards, tickets, and the Breeze Mobile 2.0 app do not work on the new system. See below for easy, convenient ways to pay your fare.

Ways to Pay Your Fare

BANK CARD: Tap directly at faregates & validators
Skip the line and tap and go. Make sure your card is tap-enabled, then hold it over the reader at the faregate or validator until you see the green checkmark confirmation and beep. Readers accept Mastercard, VISA, American Express, and Discover.

MOBILE WALLET: Tap directly at faregates & validators
Link a bank card to your mobile wallet on your smartphone or smartwatch, then hold your device over the reader at the faregate or validator. Wait for the green checkmark and beep, and you’re on your way.

BREEZE CARD: Purchase card or ticket then tap
Purchase the new orange Breeze card and add fare from a new ticket vending machine, Ride Store, new  Breeze Mobile app or  breezecard.com. Specialty Breeze cards such as Reduced Fare and Mobility are being mailed to currently certified customers. Customers who haven’t received their new card should visit the Reduced Fare office at MARTA headquarters.

Where to buy Breeze cards:

  • breezecard.com (cards are mailed to you)
  • MARTA Ride Stores at Airport & Sandy Springs Stations
  • Regional transit partner Ride Stores
  • New ticket vending machines
  • New ticket vending machines are being installed daily! Check  here for the latest list of vending machines.

Using cash? Cash is accepted at ticket vending machines and Ride Stores to purchase Breeze cards or tickets. Bus riders can pay with cash on buses, but exact change is required and fare cannot be loaded onto Breeze cards on buses. Cash fare is one-way only and does not include transfers.

VIRTUAL CARD: Google & Samsung Wallet available May 1
New virtual Breeze cards are now available in Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet to pay for trips, load fare, and see your trip history. Customers can also convert new, physical Breeze cards to virtual cards that will be stored in your Google or Samsung Wallet.

How to Use the New Breeze Mobile App

The new Breeze Mobile app is for account management only and cannot be tapped at faregates or validators. The new app lets you register your physical Breeze card, create an account, and load fare for your physical or virtual card. The virtual Breeze card will be stored in your mobile wallet.

Virtual Breeze cards for Google and Samsung Wallet are available now! Purchase a Breeze card through Google or Samsung Wallet. Link your virtual card to your account on the new  Breeze Mobile app or at  breezecard.com to access all of MARTA's fare products.

MARTA Fare Policy Remains the Same

  • Fare is $2.50 one-way with four free transfers allowed in a three-hour period.
  • Each customer needs their own form of payment. Do not “pass back” a Breeze card or bank card for others to use. If traveling with children or an individual without their own form of payment, you may purchase fare at any new touchscreen ticket vending machine. Note that multiple cards may now be purchased in one transaction at ticket vending machines. You may also pay for a companion using a different bank card than the one you used when tapping directly on the faregate or validator.
  • Cash is still accepted on local buses, ticket vending machines, and Ride Stores. Customers will not be able to load cash value onto a Breeze card on board a bus at this time.
  • You must use the exact same payment method when transferring from bus to bus and bus to rail to ensure you are not charged additional fare. For example, if you tap your debit card on the bus, tap the same debit card at the faregate when transferring to rail.
  • Even if your bank card and mobile wallet are linked to the same bank account, they are treated as different payment methods by the system.

Riding MARTA’s Transit Partner Systems

ATL Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, Ride Gwinnett:

  • Tap a bank card, mobile wallet, or new Breeze card on the orange bus validator. New Breeze cards or tickets are available for purchase at Ride Stores for MARTA, ATL Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, and Ride Gwinnett.
  • When transferring between MARTA and a partner transit system, you must use the same payment method when beginning your trip and transferring so you are not charged additional fare.
  • For example, if you use your debit card to board an Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, or Ride Gwinnett bus, you must use the same debit card when transferring to MARTA.

Even if your bank card and mobile wallet are linked to the same bank account, they are treated as different payment methods by the system. Use exactly the same payment method when transferring.
