The Elderly and Disabled Access Advisory Committee’s Bi-monthly meetings will be held at the MARTA Headquarters Building at 2424 Piedmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA, until further notice.
I. Purpose
The Elderly Disabled Access Advisory Committee (EDAAC) was established by MARTA to assist the authority in better serving the transportation needs of the elderly and individuals with disabilities. EDAAC provides advice and recommendations regarding system design, operation and accessibility that may impact this group of MARTA customers.
II. Membership
The EDAAC membership consists of a diverse group of 13 individuals from the community. There is one Chairperson and twelve (12) voting members. The EDAAC also utilizes a six (6) member panel of individuals who act as a resource to the EDAAC and support the Committee s efforts.
EDAAC s voting membership is comprised of a total of thirteen (13) EDAAC members. One Chairperson, Two individuals representing the elderly (must be at least fifty years of age or older one each from Dekalb and Fulton Counties) and one individual representing each of the following:

All EDAAC members must live in the MARTA service area within the City of Atlanta, Fulton and Dekalb Counties. All persons applying for a position as an EDAAC member should have served as a Resource member or have extensive knowledge of the functions of the Elderly and Disabled Access Advisory Committee or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
All Resource members must live in the MARTA service area within the City of Atlanta, Fulton or Dekalb Counties. In addition, they must have attended at least four out of six official EDAAC meetings. All persons applying for a position as a Resource member must be knowledgeable of the functions of the Elderly and Disabled Access Advisory Committee and ADA and also should have attended four out of six Executive Committee meetings.
EDAAC s voting members are elected for a term of two (2) years. Terms run from January 1 until December 31 of the following year. One half of the members are elected each year to allow for staggered terms between the EDAAC members.
III. Officers
There are two officers associated with the EDAAC and they are nominated from the full Committee. The officers of EDAAC are:
A. Chairperson:
- Chairs all EDAAC meetings.
- Works with MARTA staff in preparing the Agenda.
- Appoints sub-committee chairperson from the EDAAC membership.
- Represents and/or designates others to act as spokesperson(s) for EDAAC at mid-year and end of year presentations to the MARTA Board of Directors.
- Votes as a member of the MARTA EDAAC, when necessary to break a tie vote.
B. Vice-Chairperson:
- Assumes responsibility in absence of the Chairperson.
- Chairs sub-committee meeting as requested by the Chairperson.
Officers are nominated and elected from the EDAAC membership for a term of two (2) years. The terms between the Chairperson and the Vice-chairperson are staggered. The officer s term of office runs from January 1 until December 31 of the following year.

Subcommittee Chairs serve by appointment from the Chairperson for terms of one calendar year each, unless the member is disqualified, passes away, resigns, or is removed from such standing sub-committee or EDAAC.
V. Regular Meetings
Regular meetings of the EDAAC are held every other month, with the first meeting held in January of each year. The Chairperson, with MARTA s concurrence, may convene special meetings, when required. MARTA provides free shuttle service from the MARTA Headquarters building to all regularly scheduled EDAAC meetings. MARTA also provides a captionist and an interpreter at every meeting. All regularly scheduled EDAAC meetings are open to the public. Visitors at the EDAAC meetings are encouraged to make comments and or suggestions regarding any of MARTA s services and products to include, but not limited to: bus, rail, Mobility and station services.
