Officer Micah Brown succumbed to injuries sustained two weeks earlier, when his patrol car was struck by a hit-and-run driver. He had responded to a theft-in-progress call at the Lakewood / Ft. McPherson rail station in Atlanta, Georgia.

The collision occurred when the suspect driver ran a red light at the intersection of Lee Street and Donnelly Avenue. The collision resulted in Officer Brown's patrol car striking a concrete pillar.

Officer Brown was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident, but with the help of witnesses, was arrested later that same day and charged with several crimes related to the hit-and-run.

Officer Brown served with the MARTA Transit Police Department for 2 years.
